3 Tips To Save Money When Hiring A Painter

Posted on

If you are looking to make a big difference in the look and feel of your home, you may be thinking about hiring a professional painter to come in and do an interior painting job. However, if you're like many homeowners, you might be worried about how much it will cost. Luckily, following these tips can help you save money when hiring a painter.

1. Move Your Stuff Out of the Way

In general, your average painting contractor would probably prefer to come in and be able to get to work right away. If you do not move your stuff out of the way, then your painting contractors may have to move your furniture and other items away from the walls and out of their way. Not only can this cause it to take longer before they can get to work, but you might be charged for the labor cost as well. If possible, consider asking others in your household or a few friends to help you move furniture away from the walls. Also, make sure that there is a clear path to each room in your home and that there is plenty of work space for your painters to work.

2. Focus on Cleaning

Before the painting job can be done, your walls will need to be cleaned. After all, if your painters paint over dust, dirt or grime, it can negatively affect the way that your walls look when the job is done. Luckily, this is something pretty simple that you can do on your own; just use an all-purpose cleaner and a clean, new mop to clean your walls from floor to ceiling. Then, you'll know that the job has been done well, and you can eliminate a lot of the labor costs, too.

3. Buy Your Own Paint

Many people allow their painting contractors to buy the paint for them. This isn't always a bad idea, but if you shop around, you might be able to find a better deal on the paint yourself. Consider doing your own comparison shopping and buying the paint, then letting your painting crew do the rest. You can always talk to your painter to get an idea of how much paint you will need to buy for the project.

As you can see, there are a few ways that you can save money when hiring a painter. Follow these tips, and you're sure to greatly reduce the amount that you spend.
